Book Club

love my job. And I love that I can share a piece of it with you here on this blog. If I could give you one piece of professional advice it would be to never quit fighting for your dream job. I’m living proof that what some people might view as just a ‘hobby’ might one day pay your bills.

But, professionally speaking…

Jessica Kirkland joined The Blythe Daniel Agency, Inc. as Marketing and Literary Agent in 2012. She acquires both fiction and non-fiction and has a strong command for helping authors with book development. Jessica thinks outside the box as a marketer, and her experience as a business owner has helped her to coach authors to brand themselves more effectively.

She brings a lot of creative ability and innovative thinking to the publishing industry and to the agency. In addition to helping acquire and build new talent, Jessica has a strong background in sales. She speaks frequently at writers conferences on marketing, blogging, and the life of a writer. She also does blog critiques and author consulting for hybrid authors (who publish with traditional publishers and independent publishing) and indie authors. Jessica represents several finalists and winners from the ACFW Genesis Contest. Jessica has a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications and a minor in Marketing from Sam Houston State University.
When Jessica isn’t helping authors write their books, she writes on her own website where she writes about faith, family, culture, and all things Southern. Jessica lives in Texas with her husband, Robb, and 9-year-old triplets. She can be bribed with hugs and gluten-free cupcakes, and enjoys chatting with authors on Facebook.

If you are interested in pitching a book project my way, here’s what I’m looking for in this season:

Non-fiction writers with unique messages or stories (can be memoir or christian living etc..). Specifically, I like topics such as women’s issues, politics, health/wellness, cultural issues, etc..

Non-fiction for 8-12 year olds for the Christian market.

Bloggers. I am looking for unique bloggers with a growing audience who are interested in publication and have solid book ideas.

Gift book concepts/proposals for both the christian market and general market.

Cookbooks. I will only take a cookbook idea from someone who has a large online presence.

Fiction: Women’s fiction (CBA and ABA), Romance (CBA and ABA), Young Adult (General Market only). Must have an established marketing platform and endorsements.

Indie Fiction Authors: I am looking for indie fiction projects that have strong sales and the potential to become film. If pitching a book-to-film project, please come with a treatment in hand.

At this time I am not looking for: Sci-fi, Bible Studies.
